Finding Balance
If you follow me on Instagram, then you have seen that I’ve been posting a lot about Balance the Superfood Shot lately. Here’s why:
Cardiovascular disease runs STRONG in my family, including my dad, three grandparents, and an uncle (to name a few). One year ago, at age 29, my primary care practitioner told me my total cholesterol was at 300 mg/dL (should be under 200 mg/dL) and my LDL level (bad cholesterol) was at 214 mg/dL (should be under 100 mg/dL) and that it was recommended I start taking medication to control my cholesterol. Come to find out, these numbers (combined with a few others) put my lifetime risk of cardiovascular disease at 39%. I was only 29!!!!! I met with a dietitian and health coach to see what I could do to improve my cholesterol levels and avoid a daily (lifetime) medication. I walked away with three action items: 1) eat more chicken and salmon (omega3), 2) eat more fruits and veggies, and 3) increase my exercise/activity.
Fast forward several months and I discovered the Balance shot, which contains half a day’s worth of fruits and veggies. I tend to skip meals because I’m just not thinking about it with a busy schedule. My fruit/veggie intake suffered as a result and was where I was struggling the most (which is weird because I LOVE fruits and veggies). After nearly a year of focusing on my three goals, I had my numbers tested again.
My risk rate dropped from 39% to 0.3%! I was thrilled!
The Balance shot hasn’t “cured” my cholesterol issues, but has played a big role in helping me be successful with one of my three objectives!
